Holes In Martian Moon Mystery

Phobos and Deimos are the only 2 moons of Mars. Both of them have been closely observed and studied. Recently, a new and very intriguing discovery took place on Phobos. Following a couple of studies, scientists have concluded that more than 30 % of the moons interior is empty space. This moon seemed to be unusually light. Phobos is 16.8 miles long and has a craves and lumpy surface. This was the first fascinating aspect of this unique moon.
Many people state that now this feature was presented, Phobos can be a space shuttle stop. Sadly for them, this is not yet been confirmed but surely swipes away the fact that Phobos might have been an asteroid, caught in the gravity of Mars. This fact will lead us to our next step of explanation. Many astrologist's have surmised on what Phobos could have been. Some say asteroids while others have totally different perspectives. No one knows, but scientists are sure the final equation is close. Although this discovery does not tell many physical features, it can throw out some conclusion, such as the asteroid one, stated Tom Andert. Andert is a planetary geophysicist. He personally was a part of this research and gave some valuable information to NASA. What made observing and measuring Mars was the spacecraft named Mars Express. This specific craft left Earth in 2003 and since then was orbiting Mars.
Next, a large group of scientists wanted to find out the density of Phobos. If two objects are the same size, but ones more dense, then it will contain a higher mass. This is the base on which the scientists relied on for their tiny experiment. To find density, you need volume and mass. Due to the fact that they already had the volume, the mass was the missing piece to the final puzzle. They accomplished this by studying the gravitational force of Phobos. Once Mars Express neared Phobos, it was attracted from its gravitational pull. By studying the motion patterns of the spacecraft, they could successfully determine the gravitational pull. With that in their hands, now they had the mass on its way. The density of Phobos 1.87 grams per cubic centimeter. This suggests that Phobos s not made of rocks that can be found on the top of Mars. Therefore, the moon Phobos is not a pure asteroid.
In conclusion, this discovery has presented a whole lot of information to the world and I personally hope they will deploy them to some new discoveries.

Reflection

I truly believe that this discovery can teach the world a lot due to the fact that I have learned a lot from this video.
Here are some of the aspects that remained in my mind after this current event. Firstly, I reminded myself about density,
gravitational pull and other components of astronomy. This was truly perfect revision for me because some of the facts were
flowing away. Secondly, astronomy information also caught my mind. Mars and its complex features caught my attention
so the research really helped me flourish. Finally, information about Phobos and its features also rang a bell in my head.
Researching about them was really intriguing and I can assure you I learned a whole lot. I personally adored this topic and it
was another chance to live my astronomy love. After all, this current event was really interesting and I really enjoyed myself
while I was working.

Fireworks Reflection

After exploring this video, I have not only learned about fireworks, but about chemicals and how they combine.

1. How are fireworks capsules designed?

An firework is a very unique shape. It has an aerial car board outside, that is much like a raindrop. At the bottom, there is black powder propellant. In the powder, there is a fuse that finds its way to the center of the firework. This determines the characteristics of the firework and the ways of the explosion. When it comes to the black powder inside, the firework bursts. Along with the black powder, it is surrounded by green pellets on the outside that produce the effects and give off the amazing colors.

2. What safety procedures to they include in the design?

Most importantly, their is a delay fuse. This fuse needs an amount of time to reach the center of the firework and gives people time to run to safety just in case of an explosion. There are two main ways in which a fuse can be lit. Firstly, it can be lit with a fire manually, or electrically from a specific distance. The second main way for safety would be the mortar tube, the place where the firework is released from. Once you lit the fuse, you have enough time to go to safety and the mortar tube shoots the firework in the air, therefore it can not go wild.

3. What are the compounds mentioned in the video? Formulas?

Some compounds in the video might include the following; potassium nitrate (KNO3), strontium nitrate Sr(NO3)2, sodium silicate (Na2SiO3), strontium chloride (SrCl2), copper oxide (Cu2O) and a couple of extra others.

4. Which element is extremely important for fireworks to work properly? What is the fire triangle?

Oxygen is the key element that is important to fireworks. It is the oxidizer, which is necessary to make a fire. Without it, fireworks would not manufacture. The fire triangle basically demonstrates the basic factors of a firework. It shows the three major factors that are needed within a firework. A combustion triangle (another name), basically demonstrates that fuel, heat and an oxidizing agent are a necessary for a firework to work. After all, it demonstrates a fireworks ingredients.

5. What two components do fireworks need in order to produce heat at a certain burning rate?

The two main factors to produce heat at a certain burning rate is an oxidizer and fuel. Without these, there is no reaction. These aspects include potassium perchlorate, potassium nitrate and strontium nitrate. Some of the fuels include sulfur, charcoal, magnesium powder and aluminum powder. As you all may have surmised, the fuel reacts with the oxidizer, in this case oxygen, to create the heat needed. When you differ the fuel, you will get different rates and burning varies. This another example in which the fire triangle comes in handy because it demonstrates the different ingredients necessary for the full reaction.

6. What type of reaction takes place in fireworks?

For every reaction, an chemical reaction occurs. Here is why. In order to include a specific and unique color into the firework, a burning mixture is necessary, which is supplied by the oxidizer and fuel. After this has occurred you can include various colors for effects.

Scientists Discover New Species in the Worlds Deepest Ocean Trenches

For this current event, I will identify and explain to you about the new species that was found on the Peru-Chile trench. This investigation and research was founded by a team of biologists coming from Aberdeen, Tokyo and New Zealand. This new type of snail fish, was supposedly found at a massive depth of 7000 meters. The interesting fact was that also types of crustaceans were also discovered in a new specie. The expedition time period was three-weeks aboard the vessel Solle, which in they explored the deep trenches with modern technologies. One of them included a free falling camera that took 6,000 pictures when falling down. This successful expedition is the seventh one in the organization of HADEEP, which is the cooperation of the Aberdeen University, the Tokyo Ocean Research Institute and the New Zealand National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research. This team has been exploring great depths for 3 years, but this is the first time of a new specie discovery.

"This expedition was prompted by our findings in 2008 and 2009 off Japan and New Zealand where we discovered new species of snailfish known as Liparids -- inhabiting trenches off Japan and New Zealand at depths of approximately 7000m -- with each trench hosting its own unique species of the fish."

"To test whether these species would be found in all trenches, we repeated our experiments on the other side of the Pacific Ocean off Peru and Chile, some 6000 miles from our last observations." "What we found was that indeed there was another unique species of snailfish living at 7000m -- entirely new to science, which had never been caught or seen before." stated Professor Alan Jamieson.

Back to the second surprising discovery was the crustacean scavengers, that are known amphipods. Many amphipod specialists have stated that many of these creatures are not found in such depths. There must be some sort of secret, because this is the only place where these creatures are found. Dr Toyonobu Fujii stated that fish survival and existence had been an intense question. He also stated that this exploration has provided "deeper insight" into the life of a surviving fish. After, this research has provided many deeper knowledge on survival and will effect the world in a couple of ways and insights.

Reflection

Along with its great facts and meaning, I surely learned a lot from it. This can also affect the world a whole lot. The big affect on society would be a bit about animals and their survival. Although this is not really important, it can be important in some areas. This information can help in survival tips and even affect the human world. I personally believe this article and discovery does affect society, but there is still a lot of research to identify. In my opinion, this article was very intriguing. The facts were really catchy and I thought it would make a great topic. This topic was really interesting and I love it. I really enjoy animals and this was a pleasing experience. After all, it was pleasure reading this.

Bees Reveal Nature Secrets

Bees Reveal Nature Secrets: Extensive Molecular Differences Between the Workers and the Queen

November 2, 2010

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2010/11/101102171606.htm

In this current event, I will be expressing and telling you about the new investigation that has answered very intensive questions. I am sure you will be pleasantly surprised. So come on, keep reading and experience a new adventure through the complex world of science.

This very profound and important investigation was led by Professor Ryszard Maleszka of the Australian College of Medicine, Biology and Environment. He was also accompanied by his colleagues from the German Cancer Institute in Heidelberg, Germany. Their work defines the first details and differences of the “environmentally influenced chemical marking of DNA”. Meaning the difference in DNA and how it affects nature. This specific marking is crucial to brain differences. Now many scientists can notice what genes have to be tuned in order to perform the differences of behaviors between animals and humans. This finding is not only crucial, but far reaching, because the enzymes that mark DNA in the bee are also the enzymes that mark DNA in human brains,” said Professor Maleszka. This is another important statement that Maleszka pointed out. Due to the fact that the enzymes that mark DNA in the bee are the same with us, people can now deeply study the relationship and tuning of this spectacular find. Another intriguing fact was that more than 550 genes were different in the minds of the workers and the queen. As Malezska states, this is probably the biggest fact that represents the difference in behavior. This specific investigation, also answers one of the biggest questions in life. This study most importantly demonstrates how the outside world is “linked: to the DNA and how the environment can modify our personal “genetic hardware”. These risky and bizarre actions cannot be performed on humans and therefore, humble honey bees are pioneers of this important investigation.

In conclusion, Maleszka has performed one of the most important investigations so far. He has brought research to a whole new level. In my opinion, this specific study can answer life’s most challenging questions and make life easier.

Reflection

For me, this article or investigation, taught me a lot about our complex mind and how it works. Here are some of the main points that stuck in my mind after reading this article. Firstly, due to my curiosity, I researched facts about brain function to make this easier to understand. Secondly, I learned about genes and how the environment can potentially affect. I found this very interesting. Lastly, I learned everything possible about bees and humans and how they connect. This brings up another lesson in which animals are like humans. This is a fact that not many people respect and should be respecting. This topic would connect with animals and survival but at the same time brain function.

To conclude, this article is very catchy and interesting and can be associated mith many different aspects of life.

Major Chemical Spill in Hungary

On October 5, 2010 a major Eco disaster took place in Hungary, in the surrounding Budapest area, mostly impacting rural villages and towns. This disaster supposedly happened after a reservoir damn broke and an 2 meter high massive industrial wave flooded the areas and wiped away any materials in its way. This wave flooded many villages and left a number of streets and houses covered with red-sludge. Hundreds of helpless people were evacuated from villages from this terrible wave. This disaster has so far killed 4 people and injured a hundred others. This chemical wave is slowly spreading through surrounding countries including Serbia. There is also instant actions in how we can stop a terrible scene to happen. Some suggest dams while so suggest different types of ideas. In my opinion, safety measures are drastic because of this risky chemical combination. After all, this combination can potentially take away many lives and this is the fact that we are trying to cancel out. To conclude, this drastic chemical spill took place on October 5, 2010 in the surrounding villages of Budapest and has consisted of great attention. I certainly hope that drastic measures be held to prevent this spill from being a world wide issue.

In my opinion, I think this tragic event fits our topic of class in a couple of ways. Firstly, the chemical spill has a lot to do about chemicals and how they cope. This spill also represents the bad ways chemicals can influence our world. Secondly, this event can also combine with the upcoming essay about effects of harmful chemicals. I truly believe that this topic would be a perfect topic for elaborating on. Thirdly, this event elaborates more on compounds and safety measures that have to be taken when referred to chemicals. God knows when something like this could happen again, but much worse. Those are the times where we have to be ready, because as you have seen, chemicals can kill. To conclude, I personally think this video was very tragic but completed the necessary components of a chemical awareness video.

As I mentioned earlier, this video has much to do about chemical awareness, similar to the Blue Gold which is about water awareness. They both try to make the world a better place by taking action. The videos try to raise awareness about a certain topic that needs instant major attention.

Newly Discovered Planet May Be First Truly Habitable Exoplanet

Summary

A specialized team consisting of planet hunters led by the astronomers at the University of California and the Carnegie Institution of Washington have discovered an earth sized planet (three times the size of earth) orbiting a close by star. The discovered planet is in the middle of the planets "habitable zone" where H2O can exist on the planets surface. If authenticated, this planet can be the first potential planet that humans could actually survive on. To astronomers a habitable planet would be a planet that could actually sustain life, not necessarily a planet that could be lived on. These finding were based on the 11 years of observations at the observatory in Hawaii. Paul Butler of the Carnegie Institutions stated the following, "Our ability to find potentially habitable worlds is now limited only by our telescope time." This newly invention will yet be released in public also including many minor names that contributed to this miraculous discovery. It all started when two planets were found around the dwarf star Gliese 581. This improved the number to six orbiting planets which is the second largest system after ours. The most interesting planet, Gliese 581g is three times the mass of earth and as Vogt stated, enough gravity to hold down an atmosphere. This incredible planet is 20 light years away from earth and had practicably enough characteristics as earth. "We had planets on both sides of the habitable zone--one too hot and one too cold--and now we have one in the middle that's just right," Vogt said. This planet is also locked to the star meaning that the planet does not rotate, therefore, one side is always exposed to light and the other is always exposed to darkness. The planets temperatures range from -31 C - -12 C. In one side, its gets really hot while on the other it gets really chilling and cold. It was a really challenging job to find this incredible planet but the researchers are fascinated on how fast they found Gliese 581. Plus, according to the percentages, they have come to an conclusion that there are possibly billions of planets that have the same attributes. Once again, this planet was really special and many researchers and astronomers hope this planet can actually sustain life. This project was financed by NASA and the National Science Foundation.

In conclusion, there are many other planets to be discovered and finally some day, we hope we will be able to take the human civilization and transfer it to another planet.

Reflection

In my opinion, this article was very useful for developing my knowledge and it made the memories from the astrology unit. Firstly, I learned how hard planet hunters work. They never accept breaks and try to discover planets for 24 hours. There hard work payed off with this event and now we possibly have a habitable planet. I also learned a lot about habitable planets and there aspects. Now I know what type of planet is a habitable one and how it becomes a habitable planet. As I said earlier, this project also brought back memories from the astronomy unit. I now know more about the atmosphere and gravity a planet holds and more about the core of the planet. This article mostly connects to the astronomy unit and I personally think it would help students understand planets a little bit better.

In conclusion, I want to state that this article really helped my mind develop and become stronger. I also hope this planet will become a new earth!

Green PLastic

After I finished watching this video, I learned many things, one being that "Green PLastic has a bad and good impact on the world. Firstly, that Green Plastics are made out of corn, sugar canes, sugar beets and other materials. I also learned that PLA is very effective in producing materials such as diapers, socks etc. These plastics are "green" because they do not use any fossil fuels as raw materials to make plastic. They are also green because they can decompose on their own without even polluting the environment.
Green Plastics also has harmful aspects. I look at it as a cycle. To harvest these crops used for plastic, you need fertilizers which contribute to water pollution. Motor vehicles used for harvesting, transporting, planting etc release carbon dioxide which contributes to global warming. Factories used to produce plastics also need electricity which usually comes from fossil fuels. Many trees would also be cut down which would increase deforestation and less oxygen.

Some compounds I found were methane, water or H2O, lactic acid and carbon dioxide.

These two videos try to tell us what is going on in the world around us and give us interminable ways on how we could improve on its factors. They talk about polluting and the cycle of polluting. They also raise awareness on how the precious world should be treated.

In conclusion, i want to state that this video was really interesting and helped me understand more about the outside world.
